Frequently Asked Questions
What are the recommended hardware requirements? I already use Dental Office Manager II; will my data transfer? Is Dental Office Manager Studio cross-platform? (Mac and Windows) Do I have to run in OSX? Can I run on a machine using OS9? Will you have all 3 products available? (Basic, Standard, Gold) When will the new Studio product ship? Can you convert data from my existing software? Will all the features in the current DOM products be available in Studio? Will there be integration with digital x-ray and imaging? What about electronic insurance claim submission? What are the recommended hardware requirements? Any computer you purchase today will be enough to run the DOM Studio program. Buy the most computer your budget will allow. Hard disk space: The program takes about 30MB. The data file will get larger as time goes on but should not exceed 250MB. So the minimum size you need is less than 1/3 GB. Most of today’s hard disks are at least 20 GB’s. A 120 GB hard disk is about 400 times larger than what you need! RAM: Most of today’s computers run fine with 128 to 256 MB of RAM. On Mac based computers running OSX we think that you should have 256MB and 512 is better. On other Macs and Windows based systems you should have at least 128MB and 256 MB is better. Monitors: The size of the monitor is less important than the resolution it is capable of displaying. The resolution MUST BE at least 1024 X 728. For ease of use, a 17 display is best at this resolution. If your budget and space allows, go for a 18 or 19 inch display. You’ll be happy about it in the long run. If possible, use LCD displays. The minimum is a 15” CRT display with a resolution of 1024X768. Processors: Mac’s need at least a G4 processor running at 400 Mhz. Faster is better! Windows can be any of the new Pentium or Celeron processors. Speed should be at least 800 Mhz. Again faster is better. Mouse: Mac users: we highly recommend the purchase of a 2-button mouse; the progam makes use of it. The above requirements are for minimum good performance. You could probably run the program on less computer than we have described here. I already use Dental Office Manager II; will my data transfer? Yes, all the data will automatically transfer when you install the new Studio upgrade. There is NO data re-entry or data conversion needed. Is Dental Office Manager Studio cross-platform? (Mac and Windows) Yes, DOM Studio supports both platforms. On the Mac, Native OSX and OS8.6 through 9.x. On the Windows platform, DOM Studio supports Windows '95 through WindowsXP and the newer Pentium 4 processor. Do I have to run in OSX? Can I run on a machine using OS9? No, you don't have to run OSX; DOM Studio will run on Macs running OS8.6 and higher. They require different installers, so you must let us know which operating system you are using. Will you have all 3 products available? (Basic, Standard, Gold) Yes, all products will be available in the new Studio version. When will the new Studio product ship? The DOM Studio Gold is shipping now, the Standard and the Basic will ship 4th quarter 2004. However, if you need to begin using software prior to then, let us know, and we can make arrangements to send you the DOMII product to use in the meantime. Remember, all your data will automatically transfer when you install the Studio upgrade. There is no data re-entry or data conversion needed. Can you convert data from my existing software? Probably. We can extract data from many different software packages: Dental Mac, Joey, Affinity InfoManager, Three Star and Easy Dental to name just a few. To find out if we can convert from the software you use now, just e-mail us at support@dom2.com Will all the features in the current DOM products be available in Studio? Eventually. Since the DOMII products evolved over some twenty years not all features may exist in the initial release but be added to a future update. Because of this, updates will be released on a more frequent schedule. Will there be integration with digital x-ray and imaging? Yes, we are currently working on a bridge to integrate the DOM Studio with several digital storage systems. What about electronic insurance claim submission? Electronic insurance claim submission is integrated in DOM Studio and available through WebMD, or any vendor who supports their format. |
